A view along the inside of the Avenue The Beech Avenue seen from Badbury Rings
The beech avenue at Kingston Lacy stretches for over 2 miles and, from the top of Badbury Rings, can be seen snaking off into the distance.

Originally with 365 magnificent beech trees on each side of the road, old age and storm damage are now beginning to take their toll. In order that the avenue should be preserved, a strip of land has been cleared on each side of the existing trees and a new outer avenue has been planted. The intention being that, when the time is right, the remaining old trees will be cleared and the new outer avenue will take their place.

However, there is some suggestion that climate change may make it impossible to continue growing beech trees this far south and that an alternative will have to be found.
